Men's Soccer Falls to Governors State Saturday

Crown Point, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer showed more strides and improvement but Governors State was able to have the upper hand and come up with the victory, 6-0, Saturday.

 

Governors State opened up their scoring in the 12th minute of the match after a goal to make it 1-0. The Jaguars did not waste anytime as they went up 2-0 with another goal.

This time, IUN was trying to answer with a goal of their own but the shot attempt by freshman Vincent Lopez (Portage, Ind./Portage) in the 12th minute but it went wide of the net.

After that, Governors State tacked on two more goals to double their lead and extend it to 4-0 in the 24th and 31st minute.

The RedHawks went on the attack again looking for a scoring opportunity and freshman Will Carroll (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) attempted a shot in the 39th but it went high.

Right before the half, the Jaguars made it 5-0 with another goal.

Adjustments were made at the break as Governors State only goal in the second half came in 48th minute then the other 42 minutes IUN got stronger on defense and the team started to come together and looked more orgainzed. Freshman keeper Maxwell Higgins (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) played a big role in the defensive effort, picking up three huge saves. 

Freshman Cole Capps (Demotte, Ind./Kankakee Valley) tried to put the RedHawks on the scoreboard but his shot attempt in the 53rd minute went wide.

IUN had their biggest chance of the night in the 78th minute as the Jaguars fouled the RedHawks and forced them to take a penalty kick in the 78th minute but Carroll's PK went high.

Zack Baleski (Woodridge, Ill.) rebounded the shot and tried to score a goal but it also went high. 

IUN looks to bounce back Wednesday, September 4 as the RedHawks host Andrews University starting at 8 p.m. CT at the Crown Point Sportsplex. Live stats and live video will be available.
