Box Score South Bend, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest menth's basketball team held off a late rally by Indiana South Bend Saturday.
The RedHawks (8-3, 4-2 CCAC) defeated the Titans (8-5, 4-3 CCAC), 85-81, at the Student Activities Center, Saturday.
IUSB jumped out to a early 10-4 lead to start the game. Jason Peace (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit a three-pointer which capped off an 11-4 run for the RedHawks to give IUN a 15-14 lead.
The Titans went on another run to make it 25-17 for their biggest lead of the half. Back-to-back buckets by Chris Robinson (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) made it a one-possession game with 6:30 left in the half.
Rashad Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jeff) hit a huge shot with 22 seconds left to make it 36-35 IUSB. The Titans got the upper hand going into halftime after hitting a jumper of their own with four seconds remaining to go up 38-35 at the break.
Peace gave the RedHawks the lead again with a huge three-pointer that made it 46-43 with 15:52 left in the game. IUN never gave up the lead after that.
Richard Robertson (Fort Wayne, Ind.) hit a three-pointer which expanded the lead to 57-51 with 10:54 remaining. A few minutes later, Peace gave the RedHawks their biggest lead of the night which was 12 (73-61) at the 6:50 mark.
IUSB stormed all the way back to make it 82-81 IUN with 17 seconds left. Robinson knocked down a pair of huge free throws at the line with four seconds left to seal the 85-81 victory for the RedHawks.
Peace had a season high for the RedHawks with 23 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting and did not miss a three-pointer by going 5-5. Richardson recorded 20+ points again for the sixth time in a row and eighth this season as the senior had 22 points and eight rebounds.
Robinson also had double figures for IUN as the freshman had 12 points and Watkins rounded out the RedHawk leaders with 11 points.
IUN returns to action Thursday, December 12 as the RedHawks host Huntington at the Savannah Center with game time scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
