Men's Basketball Gets Past Judson Saturday

Gary, Ind. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team used a late rally in the second half to pull away and pick up the victory against Judson Saturday. The RedHawks (9-4, 5-2 CCAC) defeated the Eagles (2-10, 1-5 CCAC), 84-80, at the Savannah Center.

IUN went ahead 28-15 after a basket by Jason Peace (Indianapolis, Ind.) with 9:16 left in the first half for their biggest lead of the half. 

Judson would fight back late in the half to make it a six-point game at the break.

The RedHawks bounced back early in the second half after the Eagles rallied. IUN grabbed their biggest lead of the half after Marshaud Watkins (Harvey, Ill.) nailed a three-pointer to give the RedHawks their biggest lead of the game which was 15. 

The game was far from over as Judson scored the next 11 points to make it a four-point game (59-55) with 11:46 left in the game. Rashad Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jeff) ended the run with a basket to make it a six-point game again. 

Judson would not go away as the Eagles tied it with under eight minutes left in the contest. The Eagles would grab a 65-63 lead shortly after.

IUN was able to bounce right back with a 68-65 lead after Martellian Gibson (Rantoul, Ill.) hit a huge three-pointer. Judson bounced right back up after taking another lead (75-74) with under three minutes remaining in the game.

Back-to-back baskets by Watkins and Richardson put IUN back on top with just under two minutes left. Richardson hit the three-point dagger with 24 seconds left to put the RedHawks ahead 82-78.

Three players for the RedHawks scored double figures in the victory. Richardson had a huge game and led the way for the RedHawks as the senior recorded 37 points after shooting 15-20 from the field.

Watkins scored 14 points for IUN. Gibson rounded out the leaders for the RedHawks as the junior added 12 points in the victory.

IUN returns to action Wednesday, December 18 as the RedHawks travel to Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois to take on the Lakers starting at 7:30 p.m. CT.
