Box Score Deerfield, Ill. -- The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team picked up their first ever Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory against Trinity International, 100-86, at Van Dixhorn Arena Wednesday. The RedHawks had four players record double figures in scoring while shooting 54.7 percent from the field.
Marshaud Watkins (Oak Forest, Ill.) gave IUN an early 11-7 advantage after his basket at the 15:55 mark of the first half.
TIU responded right away and taking a 19-17 lead two minutes later. Nick Passino (Churubusco, Ind.) gave IUN the lead right back after converting an and-one.
Both teams traded ties and leads the next few minutes before TIU went up by three then Martellian Gibson (Mattoon, Ill.) tied it at 30-all at the 8:15 mark with a trifecta.
Rashad Richardson (Lafayette, Ind./Lafayette Jeff) made it 39-37 Trinity with 4:49 left to play in the half then TIU made a run to go into the break ahead 51-45.
IUN jumped out to a 18-3 run to regain the lead early in the second half to swing the game heavily in their favor for a 63-54 lead. Tremon Weston (St. Louis, Mo.) gave IUN the lead with his jump shot with 17:58 left in the game and the RedHawks never looked back.
Gibson capped off the huge run after a huge slam with 14:34 on the clock. Jason Peace (Indianapolis, Ind.) hit a huge three-pointer to make it 71-59 with 11:01 left
Back-to-back threes by Richardson and Gibson gave IUN a 89-67 lead, their biggest of the night with 6:04 left in the game. Later in the game, Korey Joyner (Fort Wayne, Ind.) gave the RedHawks their point No, 100 of the night with 1:14 to go.
Richardson led the RedHawks in scoring and on the glass as the senior recorded 23 points and eight rebounds. Gibson also had a huge night for IUN, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
Robertson added 11 points and dished out five assists. Watkins pitched in 11 points in the victory to round out the RedHawk scoring.
IUN returns to action Saturday, November 16 as the RedHawks host their conference home opener at the Savannah Center starting at 3 p.m. CT.
