Michael Lang

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

With over 15 years of coaching (12 of those at the collegiate level), extensive experience in Division III and II athletics and broad knowledge of the West Coast Athletic Conference, Lang has much to offer as a Coach. Through his years of experience playing and coaching, Lang understands the importance of teaching the absolute fundamentals of basketball to help a player reach his or her fullest potential while developing into a well-rounded basketball player.

As former Head Coach at East-West University for seven (7) years,  Lang developed the basketball program from its inception. He engineered the most remarkable season in East-West basketball history! Lang took on the East-West University challenge when there was no organized basketball program, no gym available for practice or tournaments, and there were no athletic scholarships up for grabs. Nevertheless, against all odds, Lang lead the newly formed team to a 86-82 record. Many of the Players were able transfer to Universities that noticed their talents and were able to give them athletic scholarships.

Lang’s desire is to help motivate, challenge, and guide every athlete that comes into his programs to maximize their potential while understanding that hard work, a good attitude, and faith can take you far in whatever your goal is in life.

Positioning himself as The Assistant Basketball Coach and Recruiting Coordinator with St. Xavier University was a strategic move for Lang. There he was able to head up the recruiting and player development while finishing his education requirements for Sports Worldwide Management. Once he ended his tenure with St. Xavier he continued to render his “eye in the sky” service to their Coaches.

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Coach Mike attended DuSable High School where he accredits his passion for focusing on the fundamentals of basketball. One of his preferred quotes is “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” He is well known in the greater athletic community for his involvement in coaching and officiating basketball games.

Lang, who is a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and American Sports Education Program (ASEP), earned a B.A. degree in Social Work from Northeastern Illinois in 1992 and a M.A. in Education for Roosevelt University in 1998. Serving as a full time Educator for the Chicago Public Schools for the past nineteen (19) years, Lang continues to stay true to this mission in life of being a role model and mentor for our youth.

Lang is married to former Professor Stacee Hardiman. The couple has four children, twins Kailon and Kayla, daughter Taylor and son Bryson.
