PEORIA, Ill. — Katie Plopper broke the Indiana University Northwest school record and the RedHawks women posted a program-best team average Friday at the Bradley Pink Classic, hosted by Bradley University at Newman Golf Course.
Plopper, a junior, ran a personal-record 23:33.9 in the 6K to place 68th in the women's white race, a time that is now the fastest in program history. IU Northwest placed 17th of 21 teams, with a scoring-five average of 26:19, breaking the team record of 27:20 the RedHawks set three weeks earlier at the ONU Midwest Classic. Grand Valley State won the team title with 34 points, and Salt Lake Community College's Nicole Wayment won the race in 21:29.4.
Freshmen made up much of the RedHawks' scoring five, and three of them moved into the program's top 10. Sierra Grant cut 54 seconds off her previous best with a 26:05.3, good for 152nd place and fourth on the program's all-time list. Zaria Gildon lowered her best by more than two minutes, running 27:13.4 for 176th place and seventh on the list. Chloe Miller took more than a minute off her previous best with a 27:28.9 for 182nd, ninth on the list.
Addison Waddell ran a season-best 27:15.0 to finish 177th. Alivia Roberts (28:13.6, 190th) and Ally Fremouw (28:22.2, 191st) each set personal bests as well, with Fremouw dropping about two minutes from her previous best.
The IU Northwest men did not field a full scoring squad but saw strong individual performances. Freshman Eli Tyrpin led the RedHawks with a time of 28:32.0, placing 186th and moving into third on the program's all-time top-10 list. Alec McDonald finished 249th in 32:32.2, and Owen Tyrpin ran a personal-best 32:49.4 for 252nd.
IU Northwest next competes Oct. 24 at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge, hosted by Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
