GARY, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest used a dominant second-half surge to pull away from Mount Mary University, earning a 94–57 victory Saturday afternoon inside the Savannah Center.
The RedHawks set the tone early with pace and defensive pressure. EJ Brown-Griffin knocked down an early 3-pointer to open the scoring, and controlled the paint on both ends as IU Northwest jumped out to a double-digit lead midway through the first quarter. Mount Mary briefly answered, but the RedHawks closed the opening frame on a scoring run to take control.
IU Northwest continued to apply pressure in the second quarter, forcing turnovers and converting in transition. Maggie Grady finished through contact on consecutive possessions, and the RedHawks pushed the tempo to carry a 56–28 advantage into halftime.
Any momentum Mount Mary hoped to build out of the break was quickly erased. Brown-Griffin scored on back-to-back trips to ignite a decisive third-quarter run, while sophomore Ava Kingery and the bench connected from beyond the arc as the lead ballooned past 30. IU Northwest overwhelmed Mount Mary with rebounding and ball movement, effectively putting the game away before the final period.
The RedHawks cruised through the fourth quarter, continuing to rotate the lineup while maintaining intensity on the defensive end to close out the 37-point win.
Brown-Griffin recorded another double-double, finishing with 21 points and 17 rebounds, continuing her strong form after being named CCAC Defensive Player of the Week. Kingery added 9 points and six assists, Grady contributed in 21 points and three rebounds with six assists, and IU Northwest received 25 points from its bench. The RedHawks shot efficiently from the field, dominated the glass, and forced Mount Mary into difficult possessions throughout the afternoon.
IU Northwest remains home on Wednesday, Jan. 14 returning to the Savannah Center to host Governors State University with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m..
