FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IU Northwest wrapped up day two of the Liz Lykowski Tournament on Saturday, dropping matches to host Indiana Tech (RV) and Lourdes University.
Game One: Indiana Tech 3, IU Northwest 0
The RedHawks fought through tough stretches against Indiana Tech but fell in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15, 25-8.
IU Northwest showed flashes of rhythm in the opening frame. After falling behind 9-3, the RedHawks responded with a kill from Raniyah Preston and a service ace from Kaelan Murphy to cut the deficit to 13-9. Gabi Lilovich and Julianna Kisel combined for a late block to extend the set, but Indiana Tech closed it out 25-17.
The second set saw IU Northwest battle point-for-point in the early stages. Prseston and McCabe provided back-to-back kills to keep the RedHawks within 9-6, and Murphy added a swing from the outside that cut the deficit to 18-12. Indiana Tech responded with a service ace and a late scoring run to close out the frame 25-15.
Indiana Tech controlled the third, jumping out to a 9-2 lead and never looking back despite a service ace from Preston and a late kill from Kylie McCabe.
Krueger led IU Northwest with 5 kills, while Preston added 3 kills and 8 digs. Lilovich dished out 5 assists, and libero Eva Everett anchored the defense with 11 digs.
Game Two: Lourdes 3, IU Northwest 1
The RedHawks bounced back in their second match with a gritty performance against Lourdes before falling 25-15, 21-25, 25-6, 25-20.
Lourdes controlled the opening frame, but IU Northwest answered in the second behind its most complete set of the tournament. Preston sparked the RedHawks early with consecutive kills, and Murphy added a kill to fuel a 4-0 run. Krueger's ace and a late swing from Kisel extended the lead, before Lilovich sealed the set at 25-21 with a kill from the right side.
The third set was dominated by Lourdes, but IU Northwest regrouped in the fourth. Early aces from Gabi Lilovich and strong attacks from Preston and Krueger pushed the RedHawks in front 9-4. Preston continued to lead the charge with six kills in the frame, while Everett's back-row play kept volleys alive. Despite the effort, Lourdes pieced together a late run to edge out the set 25-20.
Preston finished with a team-high 13 kills and 14 assists, while Krueger contributed 8 kills. Lilovich added 6 kills and 8 assists, and Everett recorded 16 digs.
IU Northwest (4-10) returns home to open its 2025 schedule in Gary, Ind., hosting CCAC foe University of Saint Francis at 7 p.m.
