Santana Scores Third Goal as IU Northwest Draws with Saint Francis

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — IU Northwest women's soccer battled Saint Francis (Ind.) on the road Saturday, earning a 1-1 draw after sophomore Xiomara Santana scored her third goal of the season.

The RedHawks (2-1-3) struck quickly, with Santana putting them on the board in the 4th minute by firing home an unassisted goal to give IU Northwest an early lead. From there, the RedHawks absorbed pressure, fending off 16 shots from the Cougars (6-1-1).

IU Northwest held the advantage until the final minute of regulation, when Saint Francis's Madison Meeks scored in the 90th minute to level the match.

Despite conceding late, the RedHawks showed poise defensively, limiting Saint Francis's scoring opportunities and matching their physical play in the midfield. Gabby Maldonado registered three shots, including one on target, while Santana and Daisy Bonilla added two shots each.

The RedHawks now turn their attention to conference play, opening Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference action Tuesday, Sept. 16, with a 7 p.m. road matchup against Saint Xavier University in Chicago.
