LA CROSSE, Wis. — Indiana University Northwest men's soccer generated plenty of scoring opportunities but couldn't break through in a 4-0 loss to Viterbo on Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Field.
The RedHawks (1-9-1, 0-2-1 CCAC) tallied 14 shots, matching the V-Hawks (6-1-2, 3-0-0) in overall attempts, but were unable to find the back of the net despite five shots on target. Cesar Lopez had three looks, including a header in the 67th minute and another effort in the 81st that forced a save from the Viterbo goalkeeper.
Viterbo opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Jokubas Jancauskas converted a pass from Sebastian Acosta. The hosts added three second-half goals, with Acosta, Andrii Ketsuk, and Ronmel Alfaro each finding the net to secure the result.
IU Northwest pushed forward in the second half. Erick Lopez nearly broke through with a header off a corner kick in the 77th minute that struck the crossbar, but the RedHawks couldn't capitalize.
Goalkeeper Devun Collins finished with four saves, highlighted by stops in both halves to keep the match within reach.
IU Northwest returns home Saturday, Oct. 4, hosting Trinity Christian College at 1 p.m. at East Chicago Central High School. The match will also mark the kickoff of Student-Athlete Mental Health Week in partnership with Hilinski's Hope.
