RedHawks Fall 1-0 in CCAC Opener Against Holy Cross

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest men's soccer created plenty of chances but could not find the back of the net, falling 1-0 to Holy Cross College in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener Wednesday night at East Chicago Central High School.

The match was tightly contested from start to finish, with the RedHawks (1-9-0, 0-1-0 CCAC) firing seven first-half shots and forcing three saves from Holy Cross goalkeeper Isaias Rubio. Tristyn Kososkie and Tre Adams each had early attempts on frame that nearly put IU Northwest ahead.

Holy Cross (5-4-0, 1-0-0 CCAC) broke through in the 59th minute when Daniel Alfaro scored the lone goal of the match, slipping a shot past goalkeeper Devun Collins. The senior keeper kept the RedHawks within striking distance all night, finishing with six saves, including four in the second half.

Cesar Lopez and Kyle Scott generated late opportunities for the RedHawks as they pressed for an equalizer, but the Saints' defense held strong in the closing minutes. IU Northwest finished with 11 shots to Holy Cross's nine, while also earning a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

The RedHawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, with a 2:30 p.m. road contest at Judson University in Elgin, Illinois.
