Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest women's soccer earned its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season Saturday, defeating Calumet College of St. Joseph 5-1 at East Chicago Central High School.

The RedHawks (3-2-3, 1-1-0 CCAC) dominated from the start, scoring three times in the first half. Daisy Bonilla opened the scoring in the 18th minute with her first goal of the season, followed by an Alanis Gonzalez strike in the 25th. Freshman Piper Ellenberger added another just before halftime, assisted by Olivia Montes, to give IU Northwest a commanding 3-0 lead.

Ellenberger struck again just two minutes into the second half, netting her second of the match and third of the year. After Calumet's Nikolina Panagiotou pulled one back in the 53rd minute, Xiomara Santana quickly restored the RedHawks' four-goal advantage with her fourth goal of the season less than a minute later.

IU Northwest outshot the Crimson Wave 28-3, including 20 shots on target, while also holding a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera earned the win, as the RedHawks defense limited Calumet to just one goal on three total attempts.

The RedHawks return home Tuesday, Sept. 23, to host Governors State University at 7 p.m. at East Chicago Central High School.
