ALMA, Mich. — Indiana University Northwest men's soccer put together a resilient defensive performance but couldn't find the finishing touch in a 1-0 loss to Alma College on Wednesday afternoon.
The Scots struck early in the 12th minute when Mika McCallister finished off a setup from Gavyn Moore, and the goal stood as the difference in a tightly contested match. Despite conceding early, the RedHawks (1-7-0) generated several quality chances throughout the afternoon but were unable to break through.
IU Northwest pressed hard in the second half, firing six shots and earning three corner kicks to apply pressure on Alma's back line. Senior forward Tre Adams paced the attack with four shots, including two on goal, while Cesar Lopez and Gavin Niebel also tested the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Devun Collins kept the RedHawks in the match with five saves, including several key stops in the first half that prevented the deficit from growing. IU Northwest nearly equalized in the closing moments but Alma's defense held firm to secure the win.
The RedHawks now turn their focus to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, opening league action at home against Holy Cross College on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m. in East Chicago.
