SYLVANIA, Ohio — The Indiana University Northwest RedHawks men's soccer team showed grit in the second half but came up short in a 2-1 loss to Lourdes University on Saturday.
Senior forward Dom Bixeman scored his second goal of the season in the 59th minute, heading home across to tie the match 1-1. Bixeman has quickly become a key offensive leader for the RedHawks, providing a consistent scoring threat early in the season.
Lourdes (2-1-0) opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Jannik Hofmann converted a pass from Zack Meunier-Gorman. The Gray Wolves controlled much of the first half, outshooting Indiana Northwest 11-1 and forcing goalkeeper Devun Collins into four saves.
The RedHawks (1-2-0) battled hard throughout the match. Collins was stellar between the posts, making 10 saves to keep Indiana Northwest in contention.
The game's decisive moment came in the 80th minute when Hofmann struck again, assisted by Murilo Lima, giving Lourdes the lead they would not relinquish. Even down a player, the RedHawks created several scoring opportunities but couldn't find the equalizer.
Indiana Northwest will look to rebound Wednesday at home against Taylor University at 2 p.m. in East Chicago.
