IU Northwest Bookstore Recap: Carrothers’ 37 Points Lead Indiana Northwest Past Viterbo in Regular-Season Finale

GARY, Ind. – Behind a spectacular 37-point performance from Jessica Carrothers, Indiana Northwest closed out the regular season with an emphatic 80-60 victory over Viterbo on Saturday afternoon at the Savannah Center. The win secured the RedHawks a fourth-place finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) standings as they now shift their focus to the postseason.

Carrothers was nearly unstoppable, finishing 14-of-17 from the field while converting all nine of her free-throw attempts. The junior guard also tallied six steals, three assists, and six rebounds in 37 minutes of action, setting the tone on both ends of the floor.

Katelyn Halfacre added 15 points for Indiana Northwest, hitting three 3-pointers, while Alyna Santiago chipped in 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Ava Kingery provided a spark off the bench with 10 points in 28 minutes, and Maggie Grady anchored the defense with a team-high nine rebounds and five assists.

Indiana Northwest (22-6, 15-5 CCAC) wasted no time seizing control, jumping out to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter. The RedHawks shot 47.6% (30-of-63) from the field and 39.1% (9-of-23) from three-point range while forcing 16 turnovers. Their defensive pressure led to 17 points off turnovers and 12 fast-break points, allowing them to maintain a comfortable lead throughout.

Viterbo (15-13, 8-12 CCAC) struggled to find a rhythm offensively. Emily McCurdy led the V-Hawks with 13 points, while Pearla Teko-Folly contributed eight points and seven rebounds off the bench. Olivia Lambrigtsen and Marley Hughes each added seven points, but the team shot just 37.7% from the floor and 25% (5-of-20) from three.

The RedHawks extended their lead to as many as 21 points late in the fourth quarter, capping off an impressive regular season in which they finished with 22 wins.

With the victory, Indiana Northwest clinched the No. 4 seed in the CCAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal matchup at the Savannah Center on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The opponent and game time are yet to be determined.
