FORT WAYNE, Ind. — IU Northwest men's basketball wrapped up the 2025 calendar year Tuesday afternoon with a road matchup at the University of Saint Francis (Ind.), battling through stretches of strong execution before coming up short at Hutzell Athletic Center.
The RedHawks opened the contest with good tempo, moving the ball effectively and attacking the paint early. Caleb Jenkins set the tone offensively in the opening minutes, creating shots off the dribble and helping IU Northwest stay even as the teams traded baskets.
Saint Francis began to find rhythm midway through the first half, but IU Northwest answered with defensive pressure and quick responses. Antonio Phillips added a physical presence inside, converting tough looks in traffic as IU Northwest closed the half with improved execution.
The Cougars opened the second half with a scoring run, capitalizing on consecutive possessions to extend their advantage. IU Northwest responded behind steady play from Trey Steinhilber, who helped settle the offense, moved the ball well, and applied pressure defensively during key stretches.
The RedHawks continued to push late into the second half, with Jenkins knocking down timely shots and Ladaion Barnes attacking downhill to trim the margin. Despite the sustained effort, Saint Francis executed efficiently in the closing minutes, answering each push to maintain separation.
IU Northwest competed through the final horn, closing out its final contest of the 2025 calendar year with strong effort on the road. The RedHawks now turn their focus toward conference play as the second half of the season approaches.
IU Northwest will resume CCAC action in the new year, traveling to Judson University in Elgin, Ill., with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
