RedHawks extend dominance over Calumet with 64–58 road win

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

WHITING, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest continued its long-standing success against Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday afternoon, holding off the Crimson Wave for a 64–58 victory at the Rittenmeyer Athletic Center.

The RedHawks led wire-to-wire, opening the game on a 20–10 first-quarter run and never surrendering the advantage. IU Northwest used balanced scoring and timely defensive stops to preserve the win, extending its unbeaten streak against Calumet dating back to the 2013 season.

De'Mour Watson paced IU Northwest with a game-high 19 points and 12 rebounds, recording a double-double while anchoring the RedHawks on both ends of the floor. Maggie Grady added 12 points, while Gracie Little was perfect from the field, finishing with 10 points off the bench. The RedHawks also capitalized at the free-throw line, converting 16 of 18 attempts.

IU Northwest took a 33–27 lead into halftime and weathered a third-quarter push by Calumet before sealing the game late in the fourth. Watson scored key baskets in the final minutes, and Ava Kingery knocked down a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to put the game out of reach.

Calumet was led by Jayonna Smith's 16 points and nine rebounds, but the Crimson Wave struggled to close the gap after cutting the deficit to six late in the fourth quarter.

With the win, IU Northwest maintained control throughout despite shooting just 13.3 percent from three-point range, relying instead on rebounding, bench production and defense to secure the road victory

The RedHawks return to play Dec. 29 on the road as they travel to IU East in Richmond, Ind. Tip off is scheduled for 1 pm CDT.
