MISHAWAKA, Ind. — IU Northwest men's basketball faced a stiff challenge Saturday afternoon, competing against No. 11-ranked Bethel (Ind.) before falling in a physical nonconference matchup inside Wiekamp Athletic Center.
The RedHawks (5–5, 3–2 CCAC) showed poise early against the nationally ranked Pilots, matching Bethel's intensity through the opening minutes. IU Northwest moved the ball well offensively and defended with purpose, keeping the game tight through the first half as both teams traded momentum. The RedHawks entered the break within striking distance after limiting Bethel's transition opportunities and forcing contested looks.
Bethel (10-1) used its size and depth to create separation midway through the second half, stringing together second-chance points and timely perimeter shots to build a double-digit cushion. IU Northwest continued to battle, answering runs with strong defensive possessions and timely baskets, but Bethel's efficiency late proved decisive.
Ladaion Barnes paced the RedHawks offensively, while Caleb Jenkins and Amarion Johnson provided steady contributions on both ends of the floor. IU Northwest showed resilience down the stretch, cutting the deficit late before Bethel closed the contest at the free-throw line.
The RedHawks return to the Savannah Center on Saturday, Dec. 20, hosting IU Kokomo for a 1 p.m. tipoff in a rematch of the teams' earlier meeting. The game will feature a special appearance from Santa Claus, with free admission for kids 18 and under. Fans will also have the opportunity to take photos with Santa during the game, as well as 30 minutes before and after the contest, as IU Northwest brings holiday spirit back to its home floor.
