RedHawks Capture First CCAC Win Behind Watson’s Dominant Double-Double

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

GARY, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest earned its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating Saint Ambrose 62-58 inside the Savannah Center behind a career performance from junior guard De'Mour Watson.

The RedHawks (2–6, 1–2 CCAC) set the tone early with efficient ball movement and inside scoring, opening the game on a 10–2 run highlighted by baskets from Ava Kingery and EJ Brown-Griffin. Saint Ambrose responded with a late first-quarter push, but IU Northwest maintained a 22-10 edge heading into the second.

The Bees briefly took the lead midway through the second quarter, but Watson sparked a critical momentum swing. The junior scored eight straight points for the RedHawks, powering a 13–2 run that sent IU Northwest into halftime ahead 26-41.

Saint Ambrose made multiple pushes in the second half—cutting the margin to four with under six minutes left—but the RedHawks answered every time. Gracie Little buried a corner jumper, and Kingery converted a three-point play to restore a two-possession cushion. IU Northwest closed the game by holding the Bees scoreless over the final 90 seconds.

Watson delivered one of the most dominant performances in the CCAC this season, finishing with 24 points, 19 rebounds (3 offensive), five blocks, and two steals while playing all 40 minutes. Brown-Griffin added nine points, 14 rebounds, and one assist, giving IU Northwest a constant interior threat. Kingery contributed 12 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, while Maggie Grady added 13 points, including three triples.

IU Northwest shot 37.3 percent (22-for-59) from the field and 32 percent (8-for-25) from three while limiting Saint Ambrose's interior looks and winning the rebounding battle 49–39.

With the win, the RedHawks pick up momentum entering Thanksgiving week and claim their first conference victory under head coach Nicki Monahan-Keith.

IU Northwest returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 29, hosting Spring Arbor University (Mich.) at 1 p.m. inside the Savannah Center.
