EAST CHICAGO, Ind. — IU Northwest women's soccer battled to a 1-1 draw with Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Tuesday evening at East Chicago Central High School.
Junior forward Gabby Maldonado continued her strong offensive form, netting her fifth goal of the season in the 67th minute to put the RedHawks ahead. Maldonado capitalized on a defensive miscue and slotted the ball past the keeper for the opening goal.
Trinity Christian (5-7-1, 3-3-1 CCAC) equalized just four minutes later when Nerea Genc scored unassisted in the 71st minute to make it 1-1. Despite late pressure from IU Northwest (4-3-5, 2-2-2 CCAC), the RedHawks couldn't find the go-ahead goal.
Goalkeeper Isabel Escalera was sharp in net, recording 13 saves to keep IU Northwest in contention. Erin Harrison and Daisy Bonilla each added shots on goal.
IU Northwest returns to action Saturday, Oct. 11, with a 5 p.m. road matchup at Saint Ambrose University (RV) in Davenport, Iowa.
