Indiana Northwest Falls 2-0 to Governors State

Presented by Marcus Allard Truck Rental

GARY, Ind. — Indiana University Northwest men's soccer produced one of its strongest attacking efforts of the season but couldn't convert its chances in a 2-0 loss to Governors State University on Saturday afternoon.

The RedHawks (2-13-1, 1-6-1 CCAC) fired 25 total shots — 18 of them on goal — but were denied repeatedly by Governors State goalkeeper Matias Gallego, who finished with 18 saves. IU Northwest controlled possession for much of the match, generating steady pressure through Alan Nunez, Luis Limones, and Dom Bixeman, who combined for 12 shots and eight on target.

Governors State (4-11-1, 3-4-1 CCAC) broke through in the 57th minute when Zaid Sibaai scored unassisted to give the Jaguars a 1-0 lead. The visitors added an insurance goal in the 81st minute when Tyler Diewert capitalized on a defensive turnover to make it 2-0.

IU Northwest's best scoring sequence came midway through the second half. Bixeman and Gavin Niebel each forced saves within seconds, followed by a near finish from Nunez that was cleared off the line. Devun Collins recorded two saves in goal while facing 11 shots overall.

The RedHawks will look to bounce back Tuesday, Oct. 28, when they host the University of St. Francis (Ill.) for Senior Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at East Chicago Central High School, with six seniors to be honored prior to the match.
