IU Northwest Bookstore Recap: Carrothers, Jackson Lead Indiana Northwest to Dominant Win Over Calumet

GARY, Ind. – Behind an electrifying performance from Jessica Carrothers and a dominant defensive effort, Indiana Northwest cruised past Calumet (Ind.) 75-27 on Wednesday evening at the Savannah Center in a commanding CCAC matchup.

Carrothers, the nation's leading scorer, put on another offensive clinic, finishing with 37 points on an efficient 17-of-26 shooting from the field. She added five assists, five steals, and five rebounds in just 29 minutes of play, continuing her stellar season.

Tiara Jackson controlled the paint for the RedHawks, posting a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, including 15 on the defensive end. Her efforts helped Indiana Northwest dominate the glass, holding a 44-35 rebounding advantage.

The RedHawks (15-4, 8-3 CCAC) started the game slowly, holding just a 14-12 lead after the first quarter. However, they surged in the second, outscoring the Crimson Wave 21-7 to take a 35-19 lead into halftime. The third quarter was a defensive masterpiece, with Indiana Northwest limiting Calumet to just four points while pouring in 24 of their own to extend the lead.

Indiana Northwest's defensive intensity proved too much for Calumet (2-17, 0-11 CCAC), as the RedHawks forced 28 turnovers and scored 35 points off those miscues. The RedHawks also thrived in transition, tallying 18 fast-break points and scoring 36 points in the paint.

Katelyn Halfacre and Lexi Alvarez chipped in 11 points apiece, with Alvarez adding three assists and six steals. Off the bench, Madelyn Murray contributed four points, and Amari Cole grabbed seven rebounds. Indiana Northwest shot 48.6% from the field and showcased their depth, with seven players grabbing at least one rebound.

Calumet struggled offensively, shooting just 21.2% for the game and managing only eight points in the second half. Priscilla Diaz led the Crimson Wave with nine points and five rebounds, while Ariana Lemons added six points and a team-high nine rebounds.

With the victory, the RedHawks extended their winning streak to five games and solidified their position in the CCAC standings. Indiana Northwest will look to continue their strong play on Saturday, January 25, when they travel to Joliet, Illinois, to face the University of St. Francis. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
