IU Northwest Bookstore Recap: Kingery’s Late Three Lifts RedHawks Past Indiana South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind.Ava Kingery's game-winning three-pointer with 1.4 seconds remaining capped off a dramatic comeback as Indiana Northwest edged Indiana South Bend 68-65 in a pivotal CCAC matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Student Activities Center.

The RedHawks improved to 14-4 overall and 7-3 in conference play with the victory, snapping the Titans' seven-game winning streak. Indiana South Bend dropped to 14-3 overall and 7-3 in the CCAC.

Jessica Carrothers once again led the way for Indiana Northwest, recording a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Carrothers was relentless on both ends of the court, shooting 11-of-24 from the field and converting all five of her free-throw attempts. Tiara Jackson joined her in the double-double club, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds while providing a strong presence in the paint.

Katelyn Halfacre added 11 points, hitting three three-pointers to give the RedHawks a boost from long range, while Kingery contributed nine points, including her clutch triple that sealed the victory.

The RedHawks showed resilience throughout the game, rallying back from a seven-point deficit early in the third quarter. Indiana Northwest used a 19-12 advantage in the third to chip away at the lead and closed the game on a 22-18 fourth quarter run, highlighted by Kingery's heroics.

Indiana South Bend was led by Tenleigh Phelps, who scored 19 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Bradie Chambers provided a spark off the bench, scoring 14 points while going a perfect 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. Despite holding a 39-34 edge on the boards and scoring 10 second-chance points, the Titans were unable to hold off the RedHawks down the stretch.

The game featured five ties and four lead changes, with both teams trading runs throughout the contest. Indiana Northwest capitalized on 12 points off turnovers and shot 41.3% from the field, including 36.4% from beyond the arc. The RedHawks saved their best for last, shooting 57.1% in the fourth quarter and connecting on four of six three-point attempts in the period.

The win marks a crucial step for Indiana Northwest as they continue their push in conference play. The RedHawks will look to carry this momentum into their next game on Wednesday, Jan. 22, when they host Calumet St. Joseph at 5 p.m. in the Savannah Center.
