Box Score SOUTH BEND, Ind. – RedHawks women's volleyball invaded South Bend to square off with conference and IU system rival the IU South Bend Titans. IU Northwest entered the match with a record of 1-2 in conference play, looking to get back to .500, The Titans however had other plans and would be up to the challenge as the outlasted the RedHawks in five sets 3-2 (26-24, 22-25, 15-25, 25-18, 1-15).
RedHawks jumped out to a one set lead going extra points to earn the first set at 26-24 courtesy of the strong play by
Erica Packwood who led IU Northwest with 21 kills. The Titans would rebound to take the next two sets and a 2-1 advantage heading into the fourth. RedHawks found their footing as they recovered to capture set four 25-18. Unfortunately, IU Northwest, which seem to run out of gas as the titans dominated the decisive fifth set by score of 15-1.
In addition to Packwood, RedHawks also received stellar play from
Josephine Mulligan, who is returning from a two match absence due to injury as she led IUN with 29 assists and added 11 digs. Senior
Chloe Roberts led the RedHawk defense with 22 digs, while
Briah Strezo added 15.
Despite the disappointing results, the RedHawks celebrated the achievement of Strezo reaching the 1,000 dig career milestone for her career.
With the loss the RedHawks fell to 1-3 in CCAC play at 8-12 overall. They return to action this Thursday when they host the Saint Ambrose Bees at the Savannah Center for 7 p.m. first serve.
