ADRIAN, Mich. – Senior
Erica Packwood picked up her 500
th career assist as a member of the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team, the RedHawks, however fell to host Siena Heights (25-22, 25-8, 25-17) in straight sets and Bethel (17-25, 10-25, 25-18, 14-25) in four.
IUN goes to 5-5 on the year and gets back to the action Saturday against Midway at 9 a.m. and Spring Arbor beginning at 1 p.m. central.
MATCH ONE
The RedHawks used a late 6-0 run that was jump started by a
Karly Jevert kill in the opening set to get within a point (23-22). IUN, however, was not able to continue the momentum as the Saints scored the final two points.
SHU jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the second stanza, and the RedHawks were not able to get any closer than seven after a
Josephine Mulligan kill. The Saints used another long spurt to close out the set.
During final set play IUN was down eight, but a RedHawk run was ignited by a Packwood kill, which got the RedHawks within two at 17-15. IUN would continue to stay close, but after an unforced error, SHU finished the match with a 5-0 run.
MATCH TWO
In the nightcap, the RedHawks got a combined 19 kills from Packwood, Mulligan and
Jaelyn Donald to lead the offense, while Packwood and Mulligan dished 23 assists.
Baileigh Uporsky, meanwhile, had a pair of solo blocks to give her 34 total blocks on the year.
After falling in the first two sets, the RedHawks got a much-needed win in the third frame. The RedHawks led by one at 15-14, and a Donald kill helped IUN outscore the Pilots 9-4 over the final 13 points.
IUN was trying to force a fifth set and stayed close in the early goings of the fourth frame, but Bethel used run to build a 17-10 advantage. The RedHawks tried to fight back but were not able to find the late offensive rhythm.
