GARY, Ind. – Trace Williams led the way with 17 points, while
Dannie Smith added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball teams 87-73 victory over Governors State Wednesday night.
The RedHawks and Jaguars swapped points in the early portion of the game but a
Kionne Layne three gave IUN the momentum shift. Layne's three was followed by fellow seniors
Brian Hernandez and
Lamarius Lillard's trifecta, which put the RedHawks up by 10.
The IUN advantage got to as high as 22 (36-14) on
Anthony Taylor's free throw, but GSU cut its deficit down to 13 by intermission.
During the second half, the RedHawks were able to push their lead back to 20 when Williams slammed the ball home. Then a bit later in the stanza,
Danny Petkovic gave the RedHawks a 23-point cushion.
The last two IUN points were scored by Lillard, who played his final regular season game in the Savannah Center.
IUN gets back to work Saturday when it travels to Roosevelt for the regular season finale starting at 3 p.m. Then on Wednesday, the RedHawks play a first round CCAC Tournament game at 7 p.m. inside the Savannah Center.
