WHITING, Ind. — Trace Williams put on a scoring clinic with a career-high 43 points as Indiana Northwest rallied to defeat Calumet College of St. Joseph 94-90 in an overtime nail-biter Tuesday night at the Rittenmeyer Center.
The RedHawks (5-1, 1-0 CCAC) trailed by four at halftime and by as many as 11 in the first half but clawed their way back with a dominant second-half performance. Williams was unstoppable, hitting 19 of 23 field goal attempts and adding 11 rebounds for his third consecutive game with a double-double.
Dannie Smith chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds, while
Anthony Taylor added 14 points and six boards.
Ladaion Barnes was a force on the glass, securing a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with 10 points, giving the RedHawks a fourth player in double figures.
Indiana Northwest leaned heavily on its size and inside scoring, amassing 64 points in the paint and out-rebounding Calumet 57-38. Their effort on the boards included 21 offensive rebounds, leading to 17 second-chance points.
Calumet (4-2, 0-2 CCAC) was led by a dynamic performance from Colby Wiggins, who scored 31 points on 11-of-18 shooting, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Zion Morgan contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds, while J. Caleb Slawinski added 16 points and seven boards. Despite their efforts, the Crimson Wave struggled to match the RedHawks' efficiency in overtime, shooting just 30% in the extra period.
The RedHawks took control in overtime with a 7-0 run, capped by a putback from Barnes that gave them their largest lead of the night, 92-87, with under two minutes remaining. Calumet pulled within two on a late three-pointer by Josh Morris but couldn't complete the comeback as Williams sealed the win with a pair of free throws.
Indiana Northwest shot 57.1% from the field, including a scorching 64.3% in the second half. Their defensive intensity in the final moments helped overcome 16 turnovers and a strong push from Calumet, who led for much of regulation.
The RedHawks will look to remain unbeaten in conference as they host in-state rival IU South Bend in their next contest. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, December 4 at the Savannah Center with tip-off set for 7 p.m. CST.
