GARY, Ind. – Anthony Taylor and
Jaylen Jennings each had a double-double, while
Trace Williams finished with a game-high 19 points in the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball teams 87-57 victory over Trinity Christian Monday night.
Around the six-and-a-half-minute mark TCC took a one-point lead but an offensive rebound and put back by Jennings shifted the momentum towards the RedHawks way. IUN (11-9, 8-4) would not trail for the rest of the game and would go up by five after a
Demarius Splunge three late in the opening half, which was part of his 16-point night.
Just before intermission, however the Trolls hit their own three and would get within a bucket at the break.
IUN's defense stepped up to start the second half as the unit held TCC scoreless for four minutes, which allowed the RedHawks to build a 10-point cushion. Moments later, IUN would go up 20 on a Taylor slam.
The 20-point advantage would balloon to a game-high 31-point lead when
Adam Eastland scored on a jumper. To close out the game
Brandon Escobedo would hit the RedHawks final points on a layup to ice the 30-point win.
Rounding out the double figure scoring for IUN was
Dannie Smith, who scored 11 points and pulled down four rebounds.
Up next for the RedHawks is a showdown with Holy Cross Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. (EST) in Notre Dame, Ind.
