GARY, Ind. –Trace Williams nearly completed the triple-double to help the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team take the 73-62 victory over St. Francis Saturday in conference play.
The squads were swapping buckets and training leads until
Dannie Smith scored on a fast break layup with 13:34 left in the opening half. The layup by Smith ignited a 20-4 run, which put the RedHawks on top 28-11.
During the run Williams drained consecutive buckets for IUN and he finished the game with eight points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
After the run, the Saints would only get as close as 13 after scoring basket at the buzzer, which put the RedHawks up 36-23 at intermission.
IUN kept the lead for the entirety of the second half, but with two minutes left USF cut IUN's advantage to six. But on the next trip down the floor
Jaylen Jennings was fouled and hit both free throws, which started a 7-3 spurt to put the game away for the RedHawks.
The two free throws by Jennings gave him 10 points for the night,
Demarius Splunge tickled the twine for 13 and
Lamarius Lillard scored 12 off the bench.
Monday evening the IUN returns to the court when it hosts Trinity Christian at 7:30 p.m. inside the Savannah Center.
