WHITING, Ind. – Led by
Dannie Smith's 20 points and 12 rebounds, the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team was victorious over Calumet St. Joseph's Wednesday 80-60 in CCAC action.
The RedHawks never trailed scoring the first bucket of the evening on Smith's jumper less than 30 seconds in the contest. Just past the midway point of the half,
Demarius Splunge gave IUN its largest lead (26-14) when he connected on a jumper.
However, a 12-0 CCSJ run tied the contest at 26 three minutes later, but the RedHawks answered right back and took a seven-point lead into the locker room.
At the 15:22 mark in the second half, Smith connected from beyond the arc, which put IUN up over 10. Five minutes later the advantage would be pushed over 20 when
Trace Williams scored bucket down low.
Near the closing moments of the final half
Lamarius Lillard put the RedHawks up by two dozen on a pair of free throws, which was the largest lead of the night.
To go along with Smith's 20-point performance, Williams added 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Splunge added his double-double at 10 and 10.
Anthony Taylor and Lillard rounded out the double figure scoring as they scored 14 and 10 respectively off the bench.
Next up for the RedHawks is 3 p.m. tip-off against St. Francis inside the Savannah Center on Saturday.
