GARY, Ind. – Dannie Smith and
Trace Williams led the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team in scoring, but Roosevelt grabbed the 78-51 CCAC victory Thursday night in the Savannah Center.
It took a few minutes for the RedHawks (7-9. 4-4) to get going, but the offense hit its stride and stayed tight with the Lakers. However, after
Brian Hernandez nailed a layup to bring IUN within four (22-18), RU used a 12-4 run to go into the locker room up by 10.
Four minutes into the second half, IUN got its deficit back into single digits when
Anthony Taylor hit the back end of two free throws. The RedHawks could not get any closer as RU used another long run to extend its lead to 20.
With a 1:20 left in the contest, Hernandez drove to the basket and surpassed 1,000-point mark in his intercollegiate career. Fellow senior
Lamarius Lillard, meanwhile
, is moving closer to the career milestone as well.
Next on the docket for the RedHawks is a Saturday afternoon battle with IU South Bend, which is set to start at 3 p.m.
