ELGIN, Ill. – The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team outscored CCAC foe Judson 47-26 in the second half to earn the 91-62 conference victory inside the Lindner Center Wednesday night.
The RedHawks (7-8, 4-3) never trailed as
Dannie Smith scored the opening bucket after an Eagle turnover 30 seconds into the game. The lead would eventually get to 11 after
Jalen Houston came off the bench to hit from beyond the arc.
Later in the opening half, JU got within six, but IUN put the clamps on the comeback as the defense did not allow the Eagles to get any closer in the first stanza.
After
Demarius Splunge hit from deep in the second period, the Eagles went on a run and got their deficit down to three (49-46). The RedHawks answered the call and were able to go back up by seven when Houston scored two more of his team-high 19.
Then two minutes later the Eagles would mount one last comeback before IUN turned on the jets and put the game out of reach with a 34-5 run. During that stretch of play the RedHawks defense kept the Eagles scoreless for nearly nine minutes and forced a pair of turnovers.
In all, IUN got 18 points, seven rebounds and four assists from Smith, while
Trace Williams added 15 points and seven boards.
Lamarius Lillard also hit the double figure mark with 13 off the bench and four assists.
Next on the schedule for the RedHawks is a Saturday afternoon home CCAC contest against Trinity Christian at 3 p.m.
