CROWN POINT, Ind. – Dom Bixeman scored twice, and
Joshua Adepoju put his first goal into the back of the net as the Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team came away with the 3-2 victory over IUPU Columbus Friday night at the SportsPlex.
With their second consecutive win, the RedHawks improve to 2-1-1 and return to the pitch Wednesday evening at Marian.
IUN got the game going just over three minutes into the first half when Bixeman scored on a breakaway goal as he beat the keeper from his left side. However, that was the only tally the RedHawks could muster for the rest of the period.
In the 25
th minute, the Pride tied the contest at one apiece and that's where it would stay for the remainder of the stanza.
For the first 23 minutes of the second half, the game was still deadlocked at one as
Jared Hecimovich made three saves during that time.
As a 50/50 ball was coming towards the RedHawks attacking third, Bixeman and IUPUC keeper Jacob Kasarda collided causing a yellow card to be handed to the Pride goalie. That yellow card set up a penalty kick for Bixeman and he nailed his fifth goal of the season to give IUN the advantage.
Moments later, Adepoju hit the back of the net for the first time in his intercollegiate career to put the RedHawks on top 3-1. However, the Pride brought the contest back to a one goal game in the 73
rd minute but would not be able to tie the match back up.
Over the final 17 minutes Hecimovich was tested just one time as he stopped the only shot he faced in the closing moments.
