ALMA, Mich. – The Indiana University Northwest men's soccer team fired off 25 shots Friday afternoon, but it was not enough as NCAA Division III Alma came away with the 5-1 nonconference victory.
Alan Nunez gave the RedHawks their first offensive look less than a minute into the match, but he couldn't convert. A minute later
Francisco Torres went to the upper left 90, but his shot was stopped by Scots goalkeeper Leandro Vargas.
After a couple early saves by
Gavin Niebel, Alma got a pair of first half goals in at the 26
th and 34
th minute to break the tie.
Near the end of the opening half
Luis Limones had his opportunity to get IUN on the board but he was turned away.
In the second 45, Alma scored an early goal, but minutes later Nunez converted on a penalty kick to bring the RedHawks back to within two once again. The Scots, however, scored again minutes later, which made it 4-1.
Alma would push the score to 5-1, but IUN continued to pepper the keeper as
Isaac Macias and
Lazo Golubovic each had shots on target only to have their shots stoned. The RedHawks would have four more shots but couldn't find the back of net.
Up next for IUN is a road game to CCAC foe Saint Ambrose on Wednesday, Oct. 4 beginning at 5 p.m.
