Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

RedHawks score 2-1 victory

CROWN POINT, Ind. – Kelly Shaffer scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute to lift in the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Holy Cross Wednesday evening in CCAC action.

Isabel Escalera was tested early as she picked up a save in the 9th minute, but moments later with a loose ball rolling her way she was called for a foul and the Saints (3-6-1, 1-2-1) were given a penalty kick. On the ensuing penalty kick, HC knocked the ball just past a diving Escalera.

Near the end of the first half, Kelly Landry had a corner kick opportunity and found Abigail Heintz, who scooted the ball past an out of position Saints keeper.

In second half action at the 73rd minute HC was whistled for a foul, which gave the RedHawks (2-3-4, 1-3-0) a free kick. Shaffer took the free kick and sent the ball to the high post to nail her fourth goal of the season.

For the next 20 minutes it was left to the defense as the unit allowed just two shots on target with Escalera making both saves. At the 81:17 mark, Shaffer tried to add an insurance goal, but she was denied, and the score remained 2-1.

The RedHawks look to carry the momentum into Saturday's contest against IU South Bend at Newton Park in Lakeville, Ind.
