CROWN POINT, Ind. – Behind a stingy defense, the Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team remains unbeaten in five games after tying Goshen 0-0 Wednesday night at the Crown Point SportsPlex.
The RedHawks (1-0-4) defense did not allow a shot by the Maple Leafs in the first 45 minutes of the game. The IUN offense, meanwhile, had four shots with one target over the first 12 minutes of play.
In the 32
nd minute, the RedHawks had two shots that nearly hit the back of the net as
Abigail Heintz and
Emily Valdivia had looks but just could not hit paydirt.
Early in the second half
Kendal Ziel took her shot, but it went wide and then
Gianna Witte's look was stopped by Goshen's (5-1-2) keeper. IUN goalie
Isabel Escalera then got to work as she made her first of three saves at 55:30.
Near the 80
th minute, the Maple Leafs were inches from breaking the tie when Anita Tavares's shot hit the post, but the ball went out of play and the RedHawks took possession.
As the final seconds were ticking away
Kelly Landry had one final push for IUN, but her look went wide, and the game remained deadlocked at zero.
IUN jumps into conference play Saturday morning at 11 a.m. when it hits the road and plays Saint Xavier.
