CROWN POINT, Ind. – Indiana University Northwest women's soccer team netted a pair of first half goals, and kept Lawrence Tech off the board for 70 minutes, but the teams concluded the season opener with 2-2 tie Friday evening.
The RedHawks open the season 0-0-1 and are back on the pitch Wednesday when they travel to IU Kokomo for a 6:30 (CDT) kickoff.
IUN came out of the gate firing four shots at LTU keeper Sydney Schnurstein as she made two stops in the first 13 minutes, and the other two RedHawk attempts hit the posts. Then at 14:18, IUN struck first when
Kelly Shaffer tapped the ball past line for a 1-0 lead.
As the first period went on, the RedHawks continued to get looks at goal, but were turned away until
Olivia Montes hit pay dirt on a pass from
Olivia Hansen at the 41-minute mark.
Shortly after intermission,
Isabel Escalera made two of her 10 saves to keep the shutout on the board, but with less than 20 minutes remaining LTU scored. Escalera, meanwhile, made two more stops after the goal, but following a RedHawk foul the Blue Devils tied the game, which is where the match finished.
