FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Jaelyn Donald finished the afternoon with a combined 12 kills to lead the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team in the second day of the OnSet Tournament, but No. 12 Taylor (25-10, 25-17, 25-23) and Lawrence Tech (25-14, 25-21, 25-21) each swept the RedHawks on Saturday afternoon.
After the first weekend of play the RedHawks are 0-4 and return to the court Thursday against Purdue Northwest in an exhibition contest.
MATCH ONE
Against 12
th ranked Taylor, IUN was led by Donald and
Briah Strezo, who combined for nine kills and 17 digs. The Trojans, meanwhile, kept the RedHawks from picking up momentum in the opening set, and were able to hold leads in the second in third stanza.
During third set play, Taylor was up 12-9, but IUN stormed back, thanks in part to Trojan unforced errors. The RedHawks used the momentum for a short lead after a
Karly Javert and Strezo kill, but the advantage didn't hold as Taylor used a 5-0 swing to sweep the RedHawks.
MATCH TWO
Donald and Strezo were again the offensive weapons for IUN in the nightcap as the duo finished with 13 kills.
Erica Packwood, meanwhile, dished 14 assists to lead the RedHawks, but LTU was too strong for IUN.
Late in the third set Donald put down a point to put the RedHawks up 19-17, but over the final tallies IUN was outscored 8-2.
