DUBUQUE, Iowa – Despite getting a combined 29 points from
Michaela Schmidt and
Tiara Jackson, the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball team fell 67-61 to Clarke in the first round of the NAIA Tournament Tuesday.
The RedHawks end the season at 24-8 and they return to action in the fall for the 2023-24 campaign.
Opening the game, Clarke came out of the gate up 10-0 before
Alyna Santiago scored down low to end the run. IUN, meanwhile, fought back and began a run when
Samantha Martin tickled the twine with 5:45 left in the second quarter.
Then right before halftime
Karli Miller got the game back to single digits when she scored on a jumper in the paint.
During second half play the RedHawks got within three when Miller hit a pair of free throws, but IUN could not get any closer until late in the fourth period on a Schmidt left hand bunny with 2:31 left.
The Pride, however, finished the game 4-of-6 from the free throw line and drained a back breaking three with 1:33 remaining.
For the game, IUN shot 45 percent from the field, while the defensive unit held Clarke to 21-of-57 shooting.
