GARY, Ind. – Despite
Jared Johnson's double-double, the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team dropped an overtime thriller to East-West 88-84 Friday afternoon inside the Savannah Center.
With the loss, the RedHawks are 11-13 and return to play Wednesday when they resume conference action at Trinity International.
At the 8:02 mark in the opening half,
Ladaion Barnes drained a three to give IUN a nine-point lead at 27-18. The Phantoms, however, finished the first period outscoring the RedHawks 17-8 and went into the locker room tied at 35.
During second half action, Johnson sank a pair of free throws to put the IUN advantage to a dozen, but after EWU got within striking distance the RedHawks pushed the lead back over double digits on an
Isaac Stanback charity shot.
IUN's lead would not last as the Phantoms hit the game-tying shot with 15 seconds left to send the game to overtime. During the extra five minutes, the RedHawks went back and forth with EWU, but could never grab the lead.
Offensively,
Malik Miller finished with 16 points, while Barnes scored 15 points and pulled down seven rebounds off the bench.
