GARY, Ind. – All five Indiana University Northwest women's basketball starters hit the double figure mark in the 76-70 victory over Holy Cross Wednesday night in the first round of the CCAC Tournament.
With the win, the RedHawks go to 23-6 and advance to the semifinals Friday against Olivet Nazarene at 6 p.m. inside the Savannah Center.
It was a slow start for IUN, but a
Karli Miller layup with two minutes left kick started the offense. Then over the next four minutes, the defense did its job as the unit held the Saints scoreless and the RedHawks were able to build a 15-point halftime advantage.
Late in the third period,
Sarah Martin sank a pair of free throws to give IUN a 17-point (54-37) cushion. Holy Cross, however, got the contest to a two-possession game (70-66) with just under a minute left, but the RedHawks sank all six charity shots to ice the game.
For the game Martin hit the 1,000-point mark, while
Michaela Schmidt led the way with 19 points and
Tiara Jackson grabbed a game-high 24 rebounds.
