CHICAGO – A trio of 16-point scorers helped lead the sixth seeded Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team past third seed Roosevelt in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament Tuesday.
With the win, the RedHawks, who improve to 14-15 play at two seed Saint Xavier Thursday at 6 p.m.
Outside of a tie game with 17:36 left in the opening half, IUN led the entire ball game and went up by as much as 15 following a
Ladaion Barnes layup. After the Lakers got within nine, the RedHawks answered back and took a 12-point advantage into the break when
Jared Johnson scored down low.
During second period action
Jimmie Washington drained a trifecta from the corner to push the IUN lead to 16. The Lakers though would chop the IUN lead to seven with 5:29 left before Barnes answered back when he hit from deep.
Then over the final 46 seconds the RedHawks went 6-of-8 from the free throw line to wrap up the victory.
