GARY, Ind. – Malik Miller led the way with 13 points to help give the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team a 64-60 victory over St. Francis Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season.
The win put the RedHawks at 13-15 overall, 12-8 in CCAC play and the sixth seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. The opponent is expected to be Roosevelt and the contest will be played Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Chicago.
During first half play, the RedHawks found themselves down by eight (36-28) with two minutes left. However, in the closing moments,
Ladaion Barnes and Miller scored in the paint to make it a five-point deficit at the break.
Out of the gate in the second period, Miller went back to work with a midrange jumper and then
Tyler Houston scored back-to-back buckets to push IUN in front. However, the lead was short lived as USF went back on top and it would stay that way until the 12-minute mark when
Isaac Stanback scored on an old fashion three-point play.
The RedHawks lead would get to eight with another Stanback bucket, but USF got within two (62-60) with a minute left before a pair of
Brian Hernandez free throws sealed the deal.
