GARY, Ind. – Lamarius Lillard scored a on layup with five seconds left in regulation to force overtime, but Governors State held on to win in the extra frame 81-79 Wednesday evening in CCAC action.
With the loss, the RedHawks fall to 11-12 this season and 10-6 in league play but return home Friday afternoon to play East West University.
At halftime, IUN found itself down by six but charged back and tied at the game at 41 all when
Isaac Stanback scored on a shot in the paint. Following a
Malik Miller steal,
Kionne Layne hit a layup and give RedHawks the 43-41 lead.
With eight minutes left, IUN grabbed an eight-point advantage after
Jared Johnson scored two of his game-high 21 points. However, GSU would reclaim the lead and go up by seven with just two minutes left.
Over the final two minutes, IUN used a 10-3 run to go into overtime, but after trading buckets early the Jaguars hit a three to with 30 seconds left to ice the game.
For the RedHawks, Stanback and Lillard had 19 and 18 points respectively, while Miller was a point and rebound shy of a triple-double.
