GARY, Ind. – The Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team had tough night shooting as IU Kokomo was an 80-60 winner Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference battle inside the Savannah Center.
Jaylen Jennings scored the first bucket down low for the RedHawks (6-6), but the Cougars would respond with a 22-7 run. IUN, however, would charge back and make it 32-28 following
Dannie Smith's old fashion three-point play with under three to pay in the first half.
After IUK hit from deep,
Lamarius Lillard hammered home a dunk, but just before the buzzer the Cougars drilled a three.
The teams traded buckets early in the second stanza and after
Anthony Taylor's two free throws the RedHawks tied the game at 42. Then over the next six minutes, IUN went cold, and the Cougars went on a 20-0 run that was ended when Smith scored on a layup.
After the long IUK run, the RedHawks did get as close as 14 after Jennings scored after grabbing an offensive rebound. The momentum, however, would not continue as the IUK closed the game on a 12-6 run.
IUN returns the trip to Kokomo on Thursday, Dec. 28 with tip-off set for 8 p.m. eastern time.
