KOKOMO, Ind. – Anthony Taylor led the way with 14 points for the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team, but IU Kokomo took the 74-59 nonconference victory Thursday evening inside the Student Activities and Events Center.
Brian Hernandez fired off a three to start the game, and then a bit later on
Jaylen Jennings nailed his own trifecta, which helped put the RedHawks on top by a point (10-9). However, on the trip down the floor IUK sank its own three, which put them in the lead for good.
IUN though would hang tight and keep the game under double digits until there was a minute and half remaining in the opening half. In the closing seconds
Demarius Splunge hit a jumper to make it an eight-point contest at the break.
Early in the second stanza the Cougars would go up by as much as 13, but the RedHawks got to within eight three minutes later after a Taylor shot from long range. IUN could not capitalize on the momentum, and IUK's lead would sneak back over double digits for the rest of the battle.
Along with his 14 points, Taylor also had two blocks and three steals, while
Trace Williams and
Jalen Houston added 10 points each. Williams tacked on a team-high seven rebounds and a block shot in his first action of the season.
IUN is back in action Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. when it travels up the road to battle Purdue Northwest in an exhibition game.
