JOLIET, Ill. – Tiara Jackson and
Samantha Martin each had a double-double in the Indiana University Northwest women's basketball teams 79-76 road victory over CCAC foe St. Francis Saturday afternoon.
Katelyn Halfacre nailed a jumper three minutes into game, which gave the RedHawks (5-4, 2-1) a lead they would keep the entirety of the contest. Later in the opening half, Martin, who scored 12 points put IUN in front by 22 which was its largest lead of the day.
After the Saints got within six (55-49), the RedHawks quickly pushed the score back over double digits as they closed the quarter on a 6-1 swing.
Emma Schmidt put an exclamation point on the run with a three at the buzzer.
Early in the fourth frame,
Makayla Best, who tickled the twine for a team-best 17 points hit a three which put IUN up by 13. USF, however, stormed back and get within one before Jackson would grab an offensive rebound and then put the ball back in the hoop on the next trip down the floor for the RedHawks.
IUN would finish the game by nailing four of its free throws, as Halfacre,
Alyna Santiago and Jackson hit charity shots.
Next on the docket for the RedHawks is a Tuesday evening home contest at 5:30 p.m. against No. 3 Indiana Wesleyan.
