JOLIET, Ill. – Down 10 in the second half, the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team used a 25-7 run to secure the 75-67 win over on the road to defeat St. Francis in a Saturday evening CCAC contest.
Jalen Houston, who scored 18 on the night hit the first RedHawks (5-4, 2-1) basket less than minute into the contest. The Saints quickly came back, but IUN grabbed the advantage with 12 minutes remaining when
Jaylen Jennings scored on an old fashion three-point play.
The RedHawks cushion would get to as much as seven at the close of the opening half when
Dannie Smith scored on a layup.
IUN's lead, however, would not hold as USF took its first advantage since the opening stanza at the 16:44 mark. The RedHawks hung close and went up by two minutes later when
Demarius Splunge drained a three.
The Saints turned around and used a 14-2 run to push their lead to 10 with 8:37 left on the clock. Over the next six minutes the RedHawks chopped that deficit down and retook the lead on Smith's two free throws.
From there, IUN would hang on thanks in part to
Anthony Taylor and Houston's perfection at the line in the closing moments.
The RedHawks are off for the next week until Saturday, Dec. 9 when Holy Cross comes to the Savannah Center for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
