GARY, Ind. – Dannie Smith finished the game with 17 points and 11 rebounds to help push the Indiana University Northwest men's basketball team past Holy Cross Saturday afternoon 88-82 in CCAC action.
Lamarius Lillard, who had 14 on the day drained the first points of the game from outside for the RedHawks (6-4, 3-1) and they were off to the races. Through the first 10 minutes of action IUN would go up by as much as nine after
Kionne Layne scored down.
Later in the half, Lillard was back at it when he hammered in a dunk to put the RedHawks up by 11 (38-27). IUN would keep a double-digit advantage going in halftime as
Anthony Taylor finished off the first period scoring with a fast break layup.
Following Intermission,
Demarius Splunge grabbed an offensive rebound and put in two of his team-high 18 points to make it a 19-point spread.
HCC, however, inched closer and got to within eight (63-55), but
Jalen Houston hit from deep, and Taylor scored on an old fashion three point play to push the lead back over double figures. The advantage would stay that way until the last 30 seconds when the Saints made it a six-point contest.
Next up for IUN is a Saturday, Dec. 16 road clash with CCAC foe Saint Xavier at 3 p.m.
