CHICAGO – Erica Packwood led the way with her fourth triple-double of the season as the Indiana University Northwest volleyball team defeated CCAC rival Roosevelt in five (25-18, 24-26, 25-21, 23-25, 15-12) Thursday night.
The RedHawks, who were down 18-16 in the opener needed a rally and got one when a Packwood kill started a 9-0 set ending run. The run was also highlighted by three
Chloe Roberts aces as she finished the match with the team lead.
After dropping the second stanza, IUN bounced back in the third after jumping out to a 9-2 lead. The Lakers, however inched back into the set and got within three (24-21), but it was a
Julianna Picicco kill that put the bow on the frame.
Looking to close out the match in the fourth, the RedHawks were holding on to a 23-22 advantage, but a 3-0 Roosevelt spurt forced an all or nothing fifth stanza.
IUN jumped out to a 7-2 lead following a pair of unforced Laker errors and would eventually build the lead out to 11-5. RU though used an 8-2 swing, but two more unforced errors won the match for the RedHawks.
On Saturday, IUN returns to the Savannah Center for the RedHawk Tri-Match that features Madonna (11 a.m.) and Spring Arbor (3 p.m.).
